I was browsing YouTube, and suddenly, I saw a video on Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands. The context of the video was: is the game still worth playing in 2024?
Once I read the title, I became curious and immediately watched it. However, I was not satisfied with the review, so I started thinking, why not play the game again? I played it long ago, and it was one of my favorite Prince of Persia games. And, guess what, you can also play it. But wait before downloading the Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands game. Read the full review, and you will realize whether you should play it or not.
Overview
Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands is an Action Adventure game developed and released by Ubisoft. It was initially released for Windows in 2010. Then, a different version was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. I have played the PC version of this game, so I can’t say much about the other versions.
However, I assure you that all versions of this game are set between the Prince of Persia Sands of Time and Warrior Within. So is it any good?
Although it received mixed reviews, some said it was a must-try, and some said it was boring. Keep reading to find out my feelings about it in 2024. Remember to check out the ratings.
Button-mashing combat and new powers arent particularly inspiring, but the large-scale level puzzles are rock solid.
74/100 – PC Gamer
The prince’s high-flying adventure is marred by camera issues and weak combat, but the excellent platforming is still loads of fun.
7.5/10 – GameSpot
The storyline, falling as it does in the middle of an established trilogy’s plot, feels like exactly what it is: a retrofit to a previously tight narrative.
8/10 – Polygon
Forgotten Sands is much better than the 2008 Prince of Persia, but still not as great as Sands of Time – the game it so obviously seeks to recapture the spirit of.
8/10 – IGN
Gameplay
When I started playing it again in 2024, I took some time to adapt to it. But after playing it for some time, I forgot that I had to write about it while enjoying it. It is obvious as I am a big fan of Prince of Persia games.
The story of this game is about our favorite prince and his brother. At the very beginning, the game starts with full chaos of War. The prince was surprised and started looking for his brother to find out the reasons behind the War.
After fighting with so many enemies, he found his brother. But he didn’t get the answers he was looking for, as his brother had to run from fighting chaos. However, his brother told him where to find him. So, as the Price, I had to keep fighting the enemies to go to the desired destination. That’s how the games go on.
The majority of this game is climbing. While playing it, I had to climb, climb, and keep climbing the walls. Thanks to puzzles and fighting, it would be boring otherwise. The puzzles are not that hard to solve. However, according to me, they shouldn’t be. If the puzzles were hard, I would get frustrated and stop playing them.
Not just the puzzles but also climbing and fighting with enemies was easy. But fighting with enemies keeps getting harder as the game progresses. However, I was able to maintain it as new moves were also unlocking.
At first, I had to fight normal/human enemies. After playing it for some time, I started fighting with supernatural enemies, including skeletons, sand creatures, and mythological monsters.
There were some bosses too that made me sad as I was able to beat easily. Another downside is that there was only one way to go. That means no open-world-like experience.
So, after completing the game by playing for almost 10 hours, here is my thought on this:
- Too much wall climbing, but it is enjoyable
- Easy to beat enemies, but engaging
- Average gameplay but is addictive

Graphics
When I first played it in 2014, the graphics were impressive. But in 2024, it looks average, as I have already experienced so many games with realistic graphics.
To be more specific, the visuals of the places could be better. However, the characters are up to the mark.
So it is still enjoyable?
It depends. If you want to play an action-adventure game with amazing graphics, it would not be a great choice. But if you want to just enjoy a Prince of Persia game, then it is a must-try.
However, remember to open the game settings before starting it. This will allow you to scale up the graphics and get the best experience.
Sounds and Music
Besides its gameplay, the sound and music effects make the game enjoyable. The music will give you a Persian vibe. The war environment sound effects make it engaging. And the fidgeting sound effects will keep you playing the game for hours.
Controls
Like most PC games, you can play this game with a mouse and keyboard or with a Gamepad. The playing buttons are also similar to other games.
The sad part is that you can not change the keyboard buttons. I don’t know, why they didn’t not add the settings. So, you will not be able to check which keyboard buttons need to be used while playing this game. However, you will see them when playing it for the first time.
But if you want to know them before starting the game. Here are the controls that you need to use while playing this game:

Game Modes
It would be sad knowing that Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands doesn’t have any multiplayer modes. Yes, you read it right; you have to be satisfied only with the single-player mode. However, there are some additional modes that you unlock after completing the full game. Let’s explore them:
Challenge Mode Arena: Here, you will keep facing enemies. You need to keep killing them as far as you can. It will be the taste of the skills that you have learned while playing it.
Challenge Mode: In this mode, you need to defeat 8 waves of enemies. Make sure to use resources wisely to complete it within the given time.
Survival Mode: It’s a unique mode where you need to fight against 100s of enemies within a given time. I was lucky as I had the Collector’s Editon that is required to experience this mode.
Additionally, you can choose between Normal and Easy difficulty settings.
