Prince of Persia is one of the best-known franchises of all time. Although we haven’t seen a true release of the series since 2010. So what happened? That is what I am writing about.
What Happened to the Prince of Persia Games?
Well for starters Assassin’s Creed probably had the biggest impact on Prince of Persia. Unfortunately, it wasn’t for the best as some of you may know assassin’s creed was originally going to be a Prince of Persia game. The game’s protagonist was originally going to be an assassin instead of a prince. But you would be sucked in and what that to happen instead spun off the game into a new IP called Assassin’s Creed. Now after Assassin’s Creed was created Ubisoft ended up releasing two more Prince of Persia games. Prince of Persia which released in 2008 and Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands which released in 2010. So here’s where things start going downhill? The Prince of Persia 2008 game sold 2.5 million copies worldwide whereas the first Assassin’s Creed game sold over 11 million copies.
Keep in mind it was a brand new IP. Fast forward to 2010 Ubisoft released the Forgotten Sands. It sold just about three and a half million units for 0comparison Assasins Creed 2 sold 11 point 36 million. Assasins Creed Brotherhood sold just about 7 million units. So can you really blame Ubisoft for stopping the series like they did after those sales? Assassin’s Creed was their new big property. I mean Assasins Creed 3 & 4 went out to sell about 13 million copies each of which is super impressive. In addition to that Ubisoft didn’t create Prince of Persia. So it’s entirely possible that they didn’t get to keep all the profits since they didn’t come up with the idea. Again the latest installment sold really really badly. But don’t give up hope of a new Prince of Persia game just yet.
In 2013 the Ubisoft Montreal CEO said the Prince of Persia series is being paused for the time being. After three years, Assassin’s Creed syndicate was released in 2015. It was the lowest selling game in the Assassin’s Creed franchise besides rogue. As you know they are currently taking a break from the AC series. It’s possible that Ubisoft will want to start releasing another triple-a series to make up for the loss of sales and that could potentially be Prince of Persia.
That was all I know about the Prince of Persia. Thanks for reading the post. So, which Prince of Persia Game you liked most? Let me know in the Comment section.Required File Links
